Galerie Thomas Fischer presents an exhibition of Joachim Bandau’s watercolors in collaboration with ANDREAS MURKUDIS. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, 17 October, 11-6 pm.
While Joachim Bandau has been making black watercolor paintings since the early 1980s, the works in this exhibition originated later across a time span of fifteen years from 2003 until 2018. There is something particular to the selected works, not only in terms of scale but moreover in how space is produced by the artist’s painting procedure. Whilst the earlier works from the 1980s have a rougher and more expressive touch, the focus here lies on a decisive delineation of space and perspective and the way the grey rectangular surfaces are superimposed on top of each other, offering the viewer a deepening black space.

Joachim Bandau malt seit den frühen 1980er Jahren schwarze Aquarelle, die Arbeiten in dieser Ausstellung sind jedoch in den 15 Jahren zwischen 2003 und 2018 entstanden. Diese Auswahl ist etwas Besonderes, nicht nur hinsichtlich der Schichtungen, sondern vor allem wegen der Art und Weise, in der Bandaus Malprozess Räumlichkeit erzeugt. Während die früheren Arbeiten aus den 1980er Jahren rauer und expressiver sind, liegt der Fokus hier eher auf einer entschiedenen Darstellung von Raum und Perspektive, und auf der Art, wie die grauen rechteckigen Flächen übereinander gelegt sind und so einen immer tiefer werdenden schwarzen Raum offenbaren.
